Blom Blom with Masoja Msiza
Actor, poet and musician. Born in Kwa-Thema. Masoja only met his father when he was 14 years old. The star says growing up in KwaThema, a township located in the east of Johannesburg, his mind was paralysed by everyday life experiences. He and his three siblings were born from three different men and none of them had a relationship with their fathers. The siblings were shared among relatives when their mother got sick. POETRY: Masoja began his career as a poet and later became a stage and television actor, musician and storyteller. He is the brains behind the Lentswe Poetry Project spots on SABC2 and has published two collections of poetry entitled The Voice of Hope and Avalon. He also wrote and performed promo poems for Ukhozi FM and for Bafana Bafana during the 2004 AFCON tournament in Tunisia. MUSIC: Masoja was also part of a church choir and says his album is a mix of all music genres and dramatic poetry. It took the artist nine months to compose and produce the album and he did most of the work all by himself. He worked with gospel artists Sgwili and Fikile Mlomo on the album. The activist believes that God gave him talent to change the world and says choosing to address social ills while entertaining wasn’t a difficult decision to make. TELEVISION: 2016 he landed his first starring role in television in the e.tv telenovela Ring of Lies, playing the role of Mandla then went on to play Bhodlimpi on Isibaya. He has appeared in numerous television series including Jozi Streets, Mtunzini.com, Scandal!, Isidingo, A Place Called Home, Sokhulu & Partners, Shreds and Dreams, Intersexions, Rhythm City, iNkaba, Zabalaza, Ya Lla and Mfolozi Street. Masoja currently plays Nkunzi on SABC 1 Telenovela Uzalo. He says he took a risk by joining the cast of Uzalo knowing his Zulu was more Joburg Zulu than "perfect Zulu." But he still wants people to stop judging his use of the language on the show.
